Suzuya Shokudo is located on the second floor of a building in front of Mizue Station.
I went there for lunch in search of the much-talked-about "Boiled Pork Cutlet Curry."
When the curry was brought to me, I was surprised to see the cutlet on top!
Unlike ordinary cutlets, it was thick yet looked very tender.
And when I actually tried it, it was just as advertised, so tender it could be easily cut with a spoon!
The juicy flavor of the pork belly, simmered for a long time, was an exquisite match with the crispy batter.
The curry itself was rich and had a nostalgic flavor that went well with the boiled pork cutlet.
I was also impressed by the staff's careful consideration of my preference for spiciness and the amount of rice I wanted.
This "Boiled Pork Cutlet Curry" is a supreme dish that is impossible to recreate at home. A Mizue specialty that curry and cutlet lovers should definitely try.

I went there for lunch.
I'd been interested in this place for a while, but I'm not a fan of curry spices. A chance encounter led me to drop in today.
The "Boiled Pork Cutlet Curry" lunch is 980 yen including tax.
The boiled pork cutlet was thick, not just large. Paired with the owner's special home-cooked curry, it was fantastic. I usually eat less rice, but the curry itself was easy to eat, so I added more.
Next time, I was thinking of trying the fried chicken curry, but I can't make boiled pork cutlet at home, so I'd like to have the same thing again.
I'd also like to get the cutlet sandwich for takeout.
The reason I gave the atmosphere four stars is because of the close seating. It's the same as the previous location, so if you're seated alone at the counter, the chairs are high, making it difficult for shorter people to sit.
This time, I was able to get a regular seat, which was helpful.

The food and the service were both warm and cozy, and it's a very welcoming restaurant.
In addition to curry, they also have a great and reasonably priced menu for light drinks. I'd like to visit again in the evening next time.
They also seem to be active in children's cafeterias, and I was impressed by their commitment to contributing to the community.

Every time I pass by the station, I keep seeing the sign for "Boiled Pork Cutlet Curry." Finally, I popped in on a Friday night.
Boiled pork cutlet is apparently a chunk of pork belly simmered for four hours before being deep-fried.
I wondered why they'd take the time to simmer something until it was soft and mushy, and then deep-fry it. But then, the tender pork was enveloped in a thin, perfectly crispy batter. I wondered if the portion of meat seemed a little small for the size of the plate, but since it was pork belly, it was perfectly satisfying. Frankly, it was a perfect choice.
The curry was listed as a mild spiciness, a touch sweeter than the medium-spicy version you'll find on the market. It's got depth, but the boiled pork cutlet adds color to the simple curry.
The owner is happy to explain the menu to first-time customers. People will probably like it or not, but I personally find his personality charming. It seems like he's the only one running the place, so if you're short on time... I'm not sure.
I was a little worried about paying 1,000 yen for curry, but the taste and the restaurant made me want to eat there again.
Rice
This curry is like something you'd find in a manga cafe, with a touch of restaurant flair. It's not quite homey, though. I wish it had more of a fruity flavor.
Rice
Average. The cooking method was good. The rice was a little pricey, but the lack of flavor might have been due to the rice cooker.
Browned Pork Cutlet
The braised pork cutlet is deep-fried in breadcrumbs. The thin batter shows solid technique, but braised pork is difficult to separate with a spoon, so it's easier to eat as curry if it's already shredded. But you never know until you try it, so in that sense, it's good to make an impact.
Service
The owner is very service-minded, but some customers prefer to eat quietly, so it's a double-edged sword. It seems like it's not for everyone.
Overall Review
I think the cost is quite high, so the food is decent.
The idea is interesting.
However, perhaps due to the location, I don't think it's a place I'd consider for a date.
The owner's character doesn't make it a particularly stylish establishment, but it still has a feeling of incompleteness.
I think it would be fine if they continued to operate it primarily as an izakaya that's open in the evenings. They're doing a great job running it alone. The owner is quite skilled and seems eager to learn, so I hope he continues to research.

The spiciness of the curry and the amount of rice and roux are adjustable, and the amount of each portion is clearly written in grams and cc, which is very convenient.
The curry has a homey taste, yet is spicy and easy to eat, making it very delicious.
The boiled pork cutlet is also very tender, and the size, combined with the curry, is just right to fill you up.
It's easy to see why this restaurant has received such positive reviews from other customers.
By the way, as a guide to normal spiciness (0 spicy), even commercially available medium spicy curry is not my cup of tea, so even I, who don't like it, was able to eat it.

The restaurant seems to be run by a single owner.
When I arrived, he asked if it was my first time, and when I said it, he didn't even offer me any cold water and started explaining his recommendations and portions while looking at the menu.
To be honest, if he's only going to tell me things I can easily understand by looking at the menu, it's a waste of time and I'd rather have him let me decide at my own pace.
And he did that while there were other customers waiting for their food, so I wondered why.
Apparently the recommended dish was the braised pork cutlet curry, but I wasn't in the mood for curry, so I ordered the 1,000 yen stamina bowl.
After a while, the food was served, and since I usually eat rice bowls with chopsticks, when I tried to pick up my chopsticks to eat, the owner said, "It's hard to eat with chopsticks, so I'd prefer a spoon. I'll change it for you." I thought he didn't really mind, but he switched to the spoon instead.
As I was crumbling and stirring the egg in my stamina bowl, he said, "Don't stir the egg too much at first, you should do that after you've eaten a little bit of meat, lol," in a slightly mocking tone.
I'm sure he was being kind, but it was all just unnecessary and I immediately felt bad.
Plus, they kept asking other customers how it tasted, even though they weren't asked me. It's a bit strange.
The stamina bowl itself was made with finely chopped braised pork topped with mayonnaise and an egg. It was completely different from what I imagined. It wasn't too salty or bad, but it wasn't quite there. For 1,000 yen, it's not worth it.
But maybe it would have been different if they'd offered their signature curry.
I personally think I could have had a better meal without any unpleasant feelings if I'd gone to a nearby chain restaurant. It was a complete failure.
